I guess Diablo Immortal may end up being more my speed, after all. I can see a case for Diablo 2 being remade in Diablo 3’s style, though that would have been its own level of controversy no doubt, and probably a lot more work. The wise Sorceress would do well to avoid hand-to-hand combat, and possesses many ranged and defensive spells to this end. But I’m not sure I can offer the same endorsement to those who started the series with Diablo 3, as this time warp is going to feel jarring and odd. Sorceresses are magi whom invoke the powers of ice, thunder, and flame and bend them at will to strike down legions of evildoers. If you were a huge fan of the original, it’s hard not to recommend at least trying out Resurrected. Others may be able to leap right back in and adjust, but I’m finding it hard so far.Įveryone will have to make their own judgement in the end. At least not where I’m going to invest a significant amount of time in this. But that was 10-15 years ago now, and I’m just not sure I have the patience for many of these dated systems. Surprisingly, it may not even be for me, despite my past history with the game. So in that sense, Diablo 2 Resurrected simply will not be for everyone.
So it may have been the “better” call to just stick with almost everything the way it was and please the hardest core OG fans, though yes, the game likely will turn a number of players have with how cumbersome many aspects of it are compared to its sequel.
You can’t just get rid of stamina, given that a number of actual skills are linked to it, so all those would be redesigned to. Changing any one of these systems may have created a butterfly effect that spiraled in a million different ways. It should make replays a little more fun, and hardcore players will appreciate the more responsive animations of the modern visual style.And yet, I understand why they went down this path. It’s perfect for nostalgia and function, as I had a good deal of fun playing one class entirely on retro mode, and another in just modern mode. It happens instantly, and you can even adjust the resolution for it slightly on consoles via a menu option. Unlike some other re-releases, Resurrected is wholly justified, because Diablo II‘s legacy has lived on for all this time through hardcore fans and the modding community.Īgain, it’s important to remember that this preserves the original game, as you can swap the style between “retro” and modern with a quick tap (on PS5 it’s L2+the TouchPad). It’s a large array of playstyles in all, in tandem with the aforementioned triple ability tree system. The depth of Diablo II is very much alive and well, as is the sense of experimentation of taking a character for a spin.
